Serge has been busy at the Paris Opera, where has been covering not only the role of Tolomeo, but the title role, as well! He did the first few weeks of rehearsals until Christophe Dumaux showed up from his shows at the Met for rehearsals in Paris. It was a great opportunity for him to show his stuff and try out both roles with conductor Emmanuelle Haim.
In mourning, a trio of singers (two women and a young man, the remarkable Congolese countertenor Serge Kakudji, 19 years old, moreover an extra-talented dancer) set up a vocal edifice of crystal clarity. He does well to cling to this mast of solid beauty, while the debilitated bodies continue to fade away… If Jesus interferes in the show through the t-shirt of Serge Kakudji, its kitsch and discreet presence recall the religious context of the piece. A confessional, where what he resembles seems between the two extremities of a wooden fence.”
